In January 1999 I read an article about the lagotto in
a Dutch magazine.
Half a year later after moving and settling in with my
Estrela Mountain dog Flecha and 17 year old mongrel
Arrow it was time to start thinking about expanding
the family.
I had been busy with this idea for quite some time,
reading lots of books and surfing the net. The dog to
be had to be female, be active and love working as I
wanted to do obedience and agility courses. And most
important of all she had to be the sort of dog that
gets on well with other dogs since my Estrela isn't
one of the easiest dogs on this planet.
I decided to ring the breeder that advertised in the
same magazine as the article 6 months earlier and
asked lots of questions. Once I had all the answers I
knew this was the right dog for us. An extra bonus was
that this breed doesn't shed fur. Wow what a luxury! OK
Flecha sheds for 3 but hay every bit helps. And giving
kisses without getting fur in your mouth is good!
It must of been written in the stars that Tieka was to
come live with us. The breeder Marij had just had the
first litter of Lagottos ever born in Holland and
there was one pup left... a female!
_______Flecha___Arrow__Tieka
And so Tieka entered our lives. A bit quicker than
planned as it was my intention to find a dog to one
day replace Arrow. So we were lucky enough to have 3
months together as a family of 4. Arrow sadly passed
away between Christmas and New Year. But in those 3
months, 17 year old Arrow did a great job bringing up
Tieka and being great company for each other.
Thank you Arrow.
As expected Flecha was not impressed with the newcomer.
But Tieka showed herself as a true Lagotto and 1charmed the fur
off him till he had no excuse not to like her.
Now they often sleep together in the same basket which
is something I never dear d to hope for.
Tieka is absolutely in love with him and Flecha is in
his own Estrela way crazy about her.
Up till now we have been to 6 shows. At 5 shows she
got excellent.
The last show she got very good. At the time she was
not in show condition as she had 10 week old pups.
When I entered her for the show I didnt expect her to
be pregnat but she fortunatly proved me wrong. A pitty
about the result but she was the most beautiful dog
there to me.
She has some BOS's and BOB's,
2 junior titles and Amsterdam Winster 2000 title.
Im a very proud owner!
I never thought I'd want a dog of mine to have pups
but Tieka had also enchanted me into thinking
different.I thought "ok she's not bad looking according
to the judges so lets go all the way with her" and got
her hips tested and of cause checked the rest of her
health. All this was fine too so then I really thought
it would be a shame not to breed from such a "cutie
dog" and make others just as happy as I am with Tieka.
Now Tieka has given birth to 4 lovely pups 1 male and 3
females. Their Swedish father is Eros who is well knowen
to most via his home-page . He is a
lovely male with a wonderful character, great coat and
also tested for HD, ED and character. I thought this to
be very important. And on top of all that he is Swedish
Champion! It was a long trip to Sweden but really worth
it as Tieka and Eros have produce really great pups and
will be good for the blood lines here and in Sweden as
the male pup is going to live in Sweden!!!Eroses owner has very kindly given me permission to
use photos of her handsome boy.
Thank you very much Charlotta.
To say I'm a breeder is not true but I would like a
litter from time to time and take as much care as
possible to be an asset to the breed. So part-time
breeder sounds ok.
I hope I have succeeded in introducing my family a bit
to you. I'm always willing to try to answer any
questions. You are always welcome to come and visit us
but do ring before you come as we are often out doing
fun things.
